WHAT SHOULD I INCLUDE IN MY LUGGAGE FOR MY NEXT SURF TRIP TO KRUI?

We recommend you bring 2 to 3 boards depending on your surf. Waves over here are generally between 3ft-8ft and the bigger swells can get you up to 12ft.

SURF RELATED
IS THERE A SURF SHOP IN THE AREA ? DING REPAIR?
You should come prepared with extras on your surf gear as suggested above. There is still only one local surf shop which really doesn't offer that many options if you come across gear shortage.
There is a local ding repair just around the corner who can make a decent job however if you need/want a better finish there is quite a good ding repair 30 minutes from our place
At BeOcean we have some surf hardware for sale such as fins, leashes and grips.
IS THE SURF SUITED FOR BEGINNERS?
The surf in this area is not exactly suited for the very beginners, however there are days when the swell drops and you have some options, but really some surf skills would come in handy to give you a wider surfing choice.
If you are a beginner/intermediate with a few years of experience and are searching to improve your take off, turns etc etc you sure can definitely have a great experience in some of the waves in the area
DO YOU HAVE SURF LESSONS?
No, we do not provide surf lessons primarily because it's not an area to begin your surf
However if you are not a beginner and are searching to improve your surf with a surf coach, we host some venues during the year with surf coaches who we can gladly put you in contact with, please inquire

We have some boards available in case you need to rent a board, please inquire
WHAT TYPE OF VISA DO I NEED TO ENTER INDONESIA?
Indonesia has a 30 day tourist visa available for most countries (VOA visa on arrival), handled and paid on arrival at your port of entry at the immigration check

When entering the Indonesian country your passport must have a minimum 6 month validity.

WHAT ABOUT MONEY, HOW MUCH MONEY SHOULD I BRING WITH ME?
At BeOcean you can settle ALL your bar tabs and extra services BY CARD, however you should have some cash on you for paying locally, something in the region of 700.000 IDR/ per week stay per person.
Please notice:
If you intend to pay all by cash once you are here we recommend something in the region of 2.500.000 IDR/ 3.000.000 IDR per week stay, depending on how many people are travelling and what services will be paid by cash, this can be per person or per couple

THERE ARE NO MONEY CHANGERS IN THE AREA
If you like to bring some cash we recommend you change your money in the Jakarta airport before embarking your flight to Bandar Lampung as you will get a much better rate.
Otherwise you may withdraw money in one of the ATM's in Krui where most cards are accepted nowadays.
In Bandar Lampung airport there are also ATM’s available in case you want some cash before setting off

We sure to say that one of our aims since we opened in 2015 was to keep a very clean and safe environment for our guests, making cleanliness and health related matters another one of our main priorities and focuses when carrying our our daily tasks and cleaning jobs.

HOW DO I GET TO SOUTH SUMATRA AND THEN TO KRUI?
Whether it's internationally or within Indonesia, first you must fly to Jakarta International airport (Soekarno Hatta), and our general advise would be to buy a separate flight from Jakarta to Bandar Lampung in South Sumatra.
Bandar Lampung airport (TKG Radin Inten II Airport) is at present, the most reliable (and closest) option of entry to South Sumatra by plane
After you arrive in Bandar Lampung we will pick you up by car and will take care from there...
A 6 hour drive lies ahead of you however very much worth it once you arrive to our place!
Updated info (July 2024) - flights to Krui
The flight connecting Bandar Lampung - Krui - Bandar Lampung is operating 3 times a week (Tuesdays - Thursdays - Saturdays) since June 2024, operated by Susi Air and using a small 12 seater aircraft.
It's not easy to find information online so if you can align this connection with your trip we'd be happy to give you the updated present information

Domestic flights (in case you are travelling from another Indonesian airport) will always have a stopover in Jakarta before transit to your next flight to Bandar Lampung.
GETTING FROM BANDAR LAMPUNG TO BEOCEAN KRUI AND HOW LONG IT TAKES,
We organise airport pick up from Bandar Lampung to BeOcean Krui and vice-versa for departure
The journey takes 6 hours (each way) and there is a strict maximum capacity of 4 passengers per car as luggage and surf bags must be considered as part of the weight cars can take.
We work with local transport companies and they generally have Toyota or Mitsubishi cars, they are all safe cars with trustworthy drivers
When you make a reservation you can select the add on airport services to your booking and prepay these services before arrival
WHAT ABOUT LOCAL CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS?
Sumatra is dominated by the Muslim religion, having a moderate and mellow Muslim approach in the Krui region, however when leaving our premises you should take into consideration their local customs.
Indonesians are very much attached to their traditions, ethnics and religion believes.
If you have any questions related to their customs or traditions during your stay please do not hesitate asking as we can give you plenty of information on this matter.
Over the years, we have made good friends and have met incredible people, some of which have taught us real lessons of modesty making us feel very grateful.
Indonesians also have a strong rooted hospitality towards foreigners that visit their country which could explain the genuine smiles and their curiosity when you meet them!
Dressing: for men is perfectly fine to wear boards and t-shirt when going around.
Woman are generally advised to wear modest and discrete garments, especially if they are invited or come across a formal gathering. Nevertheless (as personal experiences) you can perfectly go around places wearing discrete t-shirts and singlets, discrete short trousers and skirts just above your knees.
If you're strolling down the beach we recommend girls to take a sarong, whereas with guys it's more easygoing just to wear your boardies and no t-shirts.
There is definitely a huge difference from cultures when foreigners visit this area, specially because it's a tiny village in the middle of nowhere, but this in fact makes it more attractive...enjoying its differences...
ALCOHOL
We have a selection of wines, spirits, beer, cocktails and combo drinks available to purchase on-site !
You are welcomed to bring your own spirits always remembering the laws in Indonesia of maximum 1lt per person, nevertheless you can check in the airport.
With this we remind travellers that Indonesia has very strict laws on possession of illicit substances therefore it is advisable to avoid any temptation whatsoever when traveling to and from Indonesia.

HEALTH ISSUES
MANDATORY traveling insurance when coming over to Krui and staying at BeOcean Krui.
Even though in Krui there is a small clinic that can assist minor injuries and a hospital in the Liwa town one hour from Krui they are still not 100% reliable for more specific injuries.
In Krui there are several pharmacies available, though if you require specific medication don't forget to bring plenty with you.
Prior to departure you should seek medical advise when traveling to Indonesia in South East Asia.
Indonesia usually has specific medical and vaccination issues that should be considered and treated accordingly.
With regards to Malaria or Dengue fever, the risk varies according to the area.
The Krui region itself is not classified as a risk area for dengue nor malaria so you shouldn't worry too much during your stay, nevertheless mosquito bites can be uncomfortable specially if you're prone to them, so take care during dusk and dawn by wearing long-sleeved shirts and long trousers, have a strong tropical repellent to put on exposed parts of your body too.
All beds have their own mosquito nets and bedrooms have anti-mosquito plugs.
